Anyway, even though the transaxle light has been on (blinking on/off), the 'check engine' does not come on/stay on to indicate that a My daughter said that she was close to home so she got off the freeway & crawled home on the streets to prevent any more damage (of course it would have been best not to have driven it at all). On her way home, she said that the transaxle light started blinking and at one point, she said the rpm's shot way up. She told me that the car ran great on the way there. ** Some additional info: Unknown to me, my daughter drove the car yesterday about 7 miles up the freeway to the store. But I need to know if I pull the trans pan to change the filter, will that get ALL the fluid out? Or will I have to take it to an auto repair shop that has some special machine to make sure all the fluid is changed out? What else should I check? I don't want to drive the car until I get this figured out. My first instinct is just to change the trans filter & fluidsince it has been a while since that has been done. I drove it around the block a few times and still no light. My daughter drove the car home and when I checked the fluid, it was fine? When I started the engine, the light didn't come on. Hi all, my daughter has a 2001 Taurus LX (Vulcan) with 180,000 miles on it and a few days ago the transmission/transaxle light on the dash came on for a few minutes.
